Ok_60 My husband and I are caught in the middle of sky rocketing health costs and too young for medicare. My husband is a minister and for the last 6 years he has had to take a pay cut due to health insurance increases and decreases in the care we can get. My son and daughter in law teach English in Japan and the health care system there is fantastic. They pay into the system and when my son got sick he went to the clinic saw the doctor immediately and the doctors exam was totally covered by the insurance and when he needed a follow up he saw the... Ok_60 I happen to have good insurance, but I spent a decade without it going to school. I was lucky nothing happened to me during that period. My grandmother (who is 95) and my parents (who are approaching retirement) are lucky to have Medicare and Medicaid. We could not afford to keep my grandmother in the nursing home without that help. I want that help extended to all---college kids and the working poor and every single American. Every single American has worked for it, and every single American deserves it---no matter what.

Ok_60 As a professional with a graduate degree, I am unable to afford health care on my own. I'm an indipendent consultant with no access to a group plan, so premiums are unaffordable. My medication for glaucoma, one drop for each eye daily without which I will go blind, costs me nearly $200/month. We desperately need an affordable, basic public health care plan to choose from for people like me.

Brenda_ibm_days_small I am a licensed physical therapist in the State of Oklahoma. The need for health care reform can help not only me but also several individuals I have personally come in contact. I have a neighbor (senior citizen, retired, fixed income)who sustained a stroke last year. Since her hospitalization she has been billed over $2000 for the co-pay and deductible for the cost of care with no idea how she is to pay for either. She is now having to chose between paying the balance of the bill or paying for medication. She recently was told she... (more)

Ok_60 I am fortunate to have employer provided healthcare, however it costs over $6000 per year to add coverage for my spouse. Although the policy I'm covered under is supposed to be a "gold standard" policy, I'm in the midst of a very protracted fight with them over their refusal to pay for follow up imaging that my primary care physician and a radiologist who specializes in breast cancer detection both considered essential due to my high risk situation and the results of earlier and more routine studies.

Ok_60 As a semi retiree, having to keep the payments up through COBRA has been very expensive for me. I am diabetic, with past instances of heart issues. I have been hospitalized twice in the last two years for related conditions. I soon will be eligible for medicare, however until that time, health insurance has taken a fourth of my monthly salary. It is necessary for me to work a part time job to keep abreast with bills.

Ok_60 My cousin came back to Okla for her dad's funeral from California. She lost her job in California because of a medical problem. Her she was forced to go to a community medical center (that is severely underfunded). Now she is in a nursing home unable to walk and no one is sure why. Because of all of the the patients she does not seem to be getting any medical attention at all just food, a bath a few days and a bed. Her mother is over 80 and unable to drive and is barely able to take care of herself. Proper medical care could have avoided... (more)

Ok_60 My job does not offer health care for my child. I work 40 hours a week to provide for my child. My husband works his full schedule which he normally gets scheduled for about 30 hours weekly for a "full time" job. Then they send him home early every night because most of the Mexicans don't can't leave cause their ride wont be there until their time to leave so management keeps them and sends them home. Then when he explains that he needs more hours can't be leaving early every night they cut his hours more. My child is currently... (more)

Ok_60 My grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's and my grandmother from Parkinson's. These two diseases left a lasting financial deficit after they both passed. As the most wealthy country in the world, why is it that we can't take care of our own people properly? Insurance companies that are run for profit can not take meet the needs of the health care industry. Maximizing profits does not work when you are responsible for human lives. It's not sales that suffer, it's your constituents. Please change our health care system to reflect the needs of... (more)

Ok_60 I am one of the fortunate ones! Fortunate because I have TRICARE FOR LIFE due to my service in WWII and subsequent participation in the Air Force Reserve. Otherwise I could not have afforded my Pacemaker, my total right knee replacement, my numerous medications and doctor visits. I am 86 years old. Ideally, every person should have the comfort of adequate attention at a reasonable price.

Ok_60 At 16 my daughter was diagnosed with Acute Myleongenous Leukemia. We had no healthcare insurance. Just beyond her last treatment after 1 1/2 years of chemotherapy and a hopeful and successful remission, her father and I filed for bankruptcy due to over $295,000 in outstanding medical debt. We had no other outstanding bills such as credit cards or auto loans. Unfortunately, our daughter's cancer relapsed and she needed to begin new and additional treatment that included a stem-cell transplant. We are now trying to re-pay more than $72,000... (more)

Ok_60 I was never able to get proper healthcare for my children. I worked but never made enough and it was a struggle to get and keep any healthcare through the state. To this day my children are still without healthcare. Thank God for a mother who helped me a lot with meds for my daughter who has asthma which is induced by allergies.

Ok_60 My immediate family has health insurance, but my 63 year old brother does not. Until earlier this year, he had a job with no benefits and has now lost that job. So he has not even tried to get coverage. Last year he had chest pains and I am afraid for him. He owns his home debt-free, but it could easily be lost if he has a major medical problem. My husband and I worry about him a lot.
