Tx_60 I have an enlarged Lymph Gland in my neck that is painfull and has swollen to over an inch in size. Last October I had an MRI that cost well over $2300 approximately $500 of which was out of Pocket. The MRI showed that I needed an Ultrasound Biopsy. I scheduled that the day before Thanksgiving 2008 and after 9 attempts to insert an IV in me because the healthcare workers were in Holiday mode and were completely incompetent, I eventually went for the Ultrasound after waiting 5 hours in prep, and was told that they could see nothing to Biopsy.... Tx_60 I didn't think that at age twenty-eight, with a Masters degree and a budding career in teaching, that I would be without quality, affordable health care. Sadly, this is the case, with the fault lying in the hands of both a corrupt health-care system and a flawed college/university system. I don't know what came first in this chicken-or-the-egg scenario. What I do know is that colleges and universities take advantage of many, many teachers by hiring them half time to get out of paying the cost of rising health-care benefits. Instead of... (more)

Tx_60 I am almost (60) years old. My husband and I are both self-employed. He is 63 years old and he works very hard as a home remodeling contractor. I have two jobs. We have (4) grown children and (11) grandchildren. About a year ago I had to have some tests run. Being self-employed we have to pay for our own health insurance. Our deductible is very high and it hit us very hard when I had to have the tests run. We work like dogs and I fear that if something else happens we will be hit again with our high deductible. We are good, solid Americans who... (more)

Tx_60 I am now on disability and am able to get Medicare and a supplement plan. I am able to draw my ex-husbands social security or I would be out of luck because of my age. My family and I have paid taxes and worked all of our lives but when my husbsnd left me, he took all our money and later dropped my insurance coverage. Because of my medical problems, I could only work part time and later had to quit to apply for disability. I was forced to go to the local county health clinic and even be classified as INDIGENT! I was humiliated. After being... (more)

Tx_60 Congressmen: I have fibroids and was diagnosed over five years ago when they weren't as aggressive. Now that they are aggressive and I have heavy bleeding my insurance deems it a "pre-existing" condition. I am a law enforcement officer who is on the go and on my feet constantly which make them worse. I have to wait one full year for surgery and by then the fibroids can get worse. Hot sweaty nights, heavy monthly cycles, and weight gain has been hard for me. The loss of so much blood is not healthy for me. Please support... (more)

Tx_60 On Friday, March 13, 2009, I was layed off from my job. My health insurance would end March 31, 2009. COBRA was available, but of course I could not pay $444.00 per month. Wednesday, March 11, I began having severe chest pains - this really scared me. So I went through my list of providers and found a cardiologist, Dr. B. Keith Ellis in Houston, Texas. My appointment was set for Friday, March 27. I had four days left before my benefits ends. Dr. Ellis ordered an EKG and Eco Cardiogram. The EEG was fine, however the Eco showed... (more)

Tx_60 All through my early years I saw and experienced personally what my parents had to go through with no health care/hospitalization insurance. My mother was in and out of the hospital with various ailments through the years and my father worried incessantly about how to pay all the bills. He was always self-employed and worked hard to support a family of 7 so not only did he have to worry about money coming in for the bills and groceries, he had to make some tough choices about whether or not an illness in the family was serious enough to... Tx_60 It is obvious that there is some internal battle between doctors and insurance because they want there money upfront and ask you to file with your insurance, not speaking about all in - network doctors. At times even with CHIP they are still sending bills, not sure if they are billing in error or just trying to fish for money. Tx_60 I am one of the few lucky elderly people who has adequate health insurance however most of my friends are not so fortunate. We all have worked since we were teenagers and most have a college education. They are strapped when the co-pays are required. We all live from payday to payday. This Country needs a positive health care program and less expensive drugs. My children have some insurance now but as they age there are company's that no longer provide insurance due to cost.

Tx_60 A self-employed detective friend with pancreatic cancer was refused any chemo treatments because he didn't have enough money and no insurance. He had no money because his prior careers as a policeman AND fireman paid very lttle money around here. A daughter with college expenses was a priority for him, too. He put his life on the line every day for citizens - yet the hospitals turned him away. He withered away and died before our fundraising efforts were able to try to save him. He was a proud man who refused to ask for help - his pride... (more)
