My parents insurance carried me on their policy until i was 22 and out of college but I was dropped. It's been hard when you have to wait 90 days or even 120 days for health care from a job. It bothers me the most when the individual is in between jobs or trying to find a career that they will be happy with, in order to get health insurance. I don't like paying 70 or 100 dollars to see a doctor. Thank goodness for generic drugs in the savings department.

I am a breast cancer survivor and had a double mastectomy in Oct 07. I do have health insurance, however, for each time I was in the hospital for day surgeries I have to pay 15% of the total cost. Mastectomies are very expensive so 15% each time came to about $5000.00. I retired in Dec 07 and now I am working PT to try to pay off the bill instead of enjoying my retirement. I am a retired USPS employee and from what I am reading Postmaster General is trying to chge the health insurance programs for retirees which isn't fair to me.

Please, Congress, pass real health care reform in 2009!
Our privatized system so clearly does not work. I realized this when I was unemployed in October 2008 with type II diabetes. I could not afford to keep up the astronomical price of the medications I need, and by the time I finally scraped up the money for a visit with my doctor, my blood sugar read 515. I was able to get a drug store discount card which gives me a sizeable break on my medications, but one of the most important pills I take, Januvia is not covered by the cost of this... (more)

Health care costs, as we know, have reached astronomical proportions in our country. It is one of the main reasons for our country's economic meltdown and future meltdown of medicare and medicaid. With that in mind, how will the poor and elderly, or for that matter the middle class, maintain an adequate and diginified system of health care for years to come for themselves and their families?
My mother and father died from a lack of proper health care due to the fact that they couldn't afford the health care insurance premiums. ... (more)

My Stepfather has some sort of health plan because he is a veteran but the medicine that he needs to live is so expensive that he can not even afford to pay the copay on his fixed income. He needs to take something called Cumadin. It thins his blood so that he does not get another blood clot in his leg. If he does he may die if the clot becomes loose and goes to his heart. I wish somebody will do something about the healthcare before something happens to him. He is only 62 and if he could at least live to see his social security check that... (more)

One of my best friends had a leg operation about a year ago. His ankles still cause him great pain - a pain that would be completely gone if he could afford a second operation. However his job does not include quality health insurance. Please reform health care so that all Americans, including my friend, can receive adequate, affordable health care. I urge you to eliminate pre-existing condition in health care plans.

Hello, and first, thank you Mr President for working hard for changing our Country.
I have a Ankylosing spondylitis declared for the past 5 years at least. I've had back pain for most of my life since I was around 15 or 16. For years, I went to see doctors and practicians that would tell me that it wasn't a big deal and that I should make sure I stay healthy, do more sport and work out more often. Which I always tried to do. I'm born and raised in France, so all that part of the story is back when I was in France.
When I was a teenager I... (more)

In 2005, three months before I became eligable for Medicare, I had to have open heart surgery. I had lost my health insurance two years before when I was laid off my job. All thru the first months of 2005, I felt something was wrong and just hoped Nothing would happen till Oct.
The surgery was done in Aug. 2005, but because I had no health insurance I was unable to gom to post operative thuripy so I never recovered properly.

I cannot afford healthcare for myself or my family. Something needs to be done to make healthcare affordable for all Amercians. The cycle needs to stop and make healthcare something everyone can afford.

Health care in America should be free like in Cuba and Canada and elsewhere! You say affordable but affordable to you and to me are very different. The Ins co and health care are making way too much money. My BF has ins and went to the emergency room because his blood level was a little high, he sat there all day, finially they saw him, gave him an IV of fluids, that he did not need, gave him an insulin shoot and charged him $1,125.00!!!!!!!! Now is that right!!!! No!! it is a major rip-off!!!!! I do not have insurance, it is way too... (more)

I used to work in a medical practice for a general surgeon/practitioner. There are two stories I want to relay. The first story is about a 23 year old girl with breast cancer. She came to our office, no insurance except from a breast cancer organization which would pay a minimum. The doctor accepted her case to do a biopsy which came back as cancer. Remember, no insurance. I worked out a deal with a local surgery center where they worked out a payment plan with her parents but they still had to pay 50% down for the surgery. No reduction... (more)

Both my husband and i lost our jobs last year in the automotive industry; thus lost our healthcare coverage. We have two special needs children and I have a chronic medical condition. I was able to get medicare for them but no specialized developmental pediatrician accept medicaid in our area. I have a chronic condition for which I can't get medication or treatment for because my husband and i didn't qualify for medicaid.

I was recently laid off from Walt Disney World. I am married and my husband owns a small trucking company, which is unable to pay for healthcare our family and his employees. I was carrying my husband and 6 year old little girl on my medical plan. With the President's Economic Stimulus Plan, American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, under the Cobra Premium Subsidy, we will be able to continue to pay for our medical, dental and vision plans and secure our healthcare coverage. Without his plan, we would not. His plan will allow us to pay for the... (more)

I do worry about what Medicare has to pay out for some things. A friend asked if I liked her new shoes. "good sneakers," I said.
"Medicare paid $700.00 for these. They're diabetic shoes." $700. for a pair of shoes? How many other exorbitant charges are there for ordinary necessities? My sister in law was told she should get a pair or support hose that would cost $400. from one doctor. Medicines are sure high. My husband is a heart patient and his medicines sure cost a lot.

I WORKED IN GERMANY IN 1991 ,THEY HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE, NO IT IS NOT FREE, IT COMES OUT OF YOUR PAYCHECK BASED ON YOUR INCOME.BUT IT IS A GREAT RELIEVE TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN SEE ANY DOCTOR OR SPECIALIST FOR WHATEVER ILLNESS YOU MAY HAVE. THE BEST PART OF IT IS THERE IS NO PAPERWORK FOR THE PATIENT TO FILL OUT. THE GOVERMENT PAYS THE DOCTOR F0R EVERY PATIENT HE SEES. I HOPE SOMEDAY WE WILL HAVE UNIVERSAL COVERAGE HERE TO.
