I am lucky right now in that I have excellent health insurance which covers everything I need including prescriptions, and access to at least some choice of health care providers. However, I know that should I lose my current job or change to a different insurance provider, I might not be as lucky.
I have Type 1 Diabetes, and have been on insurance plans before which would not cover my prescriptions after a certain point, which resulted in my having to spend $500/month out of pocket, just to get the medications and other supplies that keep... (more)

My wife retired after working for the same company for 25 years, and now her entire pension has to go to pay for health insurance. And the insurance is NOT that good. Health care costs in America are asinine!

I knew I needed a biopsy on my lip, so I called my doctor to see if I had to have a referral, the answer was, yes, your policy requires it. I went to my doctor, he came in for two minutes and said you need a biopsy. $70.00 for the unnecessary office call. I went to my appointment with the doctor I was referred to, he came in for five minutes and said I need a biopsy, this visit was called a consultation and the bill was $300.00. So at this point I and the insurance company are out $370.00 for NOTHING.

My premium monthly is 400.00. The deductible is 2000.00. Not one doctor in this town will accept this company. A waste of money. Help me Mr. President

I was employed for 17 years with a major company until 2 years ago when the economy began going down many of us were let go. I have not had health or life insurance since then. I went to school and am now very proudly a self employed medical transcriptionist4. However, I still cannot afford health insurance so if I become ill my husband and I could lose everything, including our small family farm. Now my husband has learned that his insurance at his place of employment (we cannot afford to insure me on his policy) is going up to 45% employee... (more)

I have had the good fortune to live in Germany where health insurance is required for all and provided to all. If you need a liver transplant, you get it and paid in full. The funding by the total public and each employee put enough funding into the collective common pot to take care of everyone according to their need. The govt. regulates pricing on prescription prices and the pharmaceutical and health insurance companies have done financially well since decades. We all need health care and in Germany the system works well and surprises... (more)

A friend has healthcare coverage through her employer. It has a very high deductible and she is unable to afford routine preventive checkups and testing such as mammograms and colonoscopies. It seems far more cost effective to have these tests done to prevent catastrophic illness, but she has a very low paying job.

I am 61 years old. I am a diabetic. I have worked for the Medicare program with the Illinois Medicare carrier for 26 years, our contract was awarded to another carrier but has been protested and we are waiting to hear our fate; but us older ones are seeing as the work is meeted out to the newer employees and talk of laying off others I see that I am looking for a new job with little hope. Even if I were to get a mediocre job, they would not insure me for my diabetes because it is a prior condition. I am too young for Medicare and too old... (more)

I am the only one with health care in my family.(I am disabled from an accident 4 years ago, and I am on disability) My son, my girlfriend, her 3 daughters, my brother and his family have no health care. I, personally know very few people who do. They all have jobs and are struggling to get by, but have no insurance. We have always assumed that when we get sick we will get better on our own or we will die. I'm sure thats how the insurance companies feel about us.(No Profit, No Care)
There is also a great need for dental care because we... (more)

We live together, my husband, my son and myself. My son and husband have Veteran's Administration Healthcare. They are disabled. I am almost 62 and I have none. I have a few un-taken care of health problems that I need doctoring for. I am slipping through the cracks as far as health care go. So if I get really sick will you all just let me die?

As a 56 year old woman that has diabetes, high blood pressure and other I worry. My husband and I have insurance but thats not saying to much, we pay almost 100.00 per week and when you only make 10.75 an hour that eats a huge hole in a paycheck. Then the deductibles are crazy but thank God we still have a job. So I believe we need more affordable rates, better choices, and just some better rules for all the insurance companies and doctors and hospitals. Thanks for all your hard work Mr.President and all your concern for people like us.

Bottom line, there would be a lot less incentive for unmarried women to become pregnant if they were rewarded for behaving in an appropriate manner rather than punished for being a responsible person and taking the high road. I had to have a major operation when I was 18 years old. The only bad credit I had on my record was from unpaid medical bills. I am currently working with a young lady who is 23, the only bad credit she will have is from her gull bladder surgery which she needs to have removed. Not alloting all Americans health care... I have health insurance with Blue Cross/Blue Shield through the school district I teach in. But even though I have health insurance, it costs so much I cannot afford to cover my husband or our son Luke. It costs me almost $200 a month just for me. It would cost $700 a month for my family and we can't afford that. Health Insurance should not cost so much. It should just be something people have. My husband's knee is hurt and we can't take him to the doctor to get it looked at. That just seems wrong. He works hard every day, but we can't afford... (more)
