I have been unemployed since last August. I couldn't afford COBRA at over $700/mo and it wasn't that great of a plan. So I have a high deductible, low cost and very poor coverage.
A couple of months ago, my 18 year old daughter gave blood. She felt dizzy and in the process of fainting she hit her head hard against a bannister and lost consciousness. I called 911 and the EMTs came to the house. She revived. The EMTs thought she was okay but suggested that they bring her to the emergency room. I decided against it. I knew that it... (more)

My partner tore her acl two years ago. When the accident happened we went directly to the hospital assuming her private insurance would cover the majority of the cost. After spending several thousand dollars on initial appointments we were informed that the surgery would cost upwards of $25,000 and that her insurance wouldnt pay anything for it due to a loop hole in her coverage. She was forced to forgo the surgery. A little over a year ago we moved to Australia after a short waiting period and paying less for insurance than she did back... (more)

Hi, I am italian, and in Italy the health care is free. I work importing several brands of real hawaiian clothing. So I travel often, and in US. For a little incident with a motoscooter I had to pay 2.500 Dollars in Hawaii, for medical cures. It's unacceptable for a person like me that is used to have medical care free. I thing that to have a public and free medical care is one of the most important issue for US.

I am an American who has lived in Canada most of my adult life. There are problems here in Canada, as well, with access - long waiting lists to see a doc, long lines for surgery, diagnostic tests, etc. Canada should not be a model for US health care. Instead, I would advise to look at Euroopean countries where health care is handled more successfully - France, for example, Austria, even England does it better.

I am a Canadian and my mother has dual US and Canadian citizenship. I visit your country often as I love Americans. My children and I are all university graduates who have on occasion considered moving to the USA but upon reflecting on your poor health care system have chosen to stay in Canada where we are all treated the same and where health coverage is a right.
My mother had cancer surgery 10 years ago and is alive and prospering at age 80. Her costs were $0. My husband had knee surgery. His costs $0. My two boys have new babies. Cost... (more)

My last wrong experience concerns my father who is 85 and he takes a lot of medicines for the Heart and for diabetic problems. A dermatologist said he had a little cancer on his head and he proposed him a new red light laser apparel. the dermatologist failed to inform us that the therapy was so painful that my father would have take some remedy but he cannot take any remedy because of his health situation. People need to be informed in advance of what are the effects of the therapy that doctors propose them just to amortize the apparel. this... (more)

I have travelled to many nations and have always been impressed that most nations consider healthcare to be a basic HUMAN RIGHT.
My family is not wealthy and I have seen too many family members forced to compromise basic human needs to attain an inkling of healthcare. If we are fortunate to find a plan then it is most likely to entail mediocre care.
Unfortunately it has become a norm for many of us to not have healthcare and pray we do not become ill. It has been long overdue for health care reform; Good luck.

I am a teatcher in Italy school and my money work in a mounth is EURO 1.700,00:it's impossibile have a good life because the principal products are too expencive.I think that Barak must give more money and more pubblic sanitary-sistem to the people.
The school-sistem must be more professional and more organization for new kind of culture . More money for the middle and lower pubblic workers.

There is no choice for the person with no insurance. There is no choice for the person who is under insured. There is no choice for the HMO with limited providers, gate keepers, and ever rising co=pays,... (more)

I'm an italian citizen and I got no stories to share with you. Anyway I wonder if president Obama will have to increase US health care's outsourcing of services in the near term to support the expanding programs of the new administration. I think a way to do that would be to decrease taxation over companies which provides and manages government sponsored social services (with not-for-profit managed services).

I am an American living in Australia. We get medicare here, all ages do and I am so thankful for it.
Here you can go on the public or private system. Stories I hear in the USA about possible long delays are hype as far as I am concerned. If you need quick attention you get it here.
I think America is the last holdout of the modernized countries that does NOT have a national health care system for all. You pay your taxes but much of the money goes elsewhere.
I have seen here in Australia a country that does have a good medical... (more)

I am a Canadian retiree with close ties to the US. My younger son was born in Atlanta,GA where I served as Canadian Consul General 20 years ago. My older, Canadian-born son completed medical school in the US in 2008 and is now doing his residency in emergency medecine at an American hospital. We expect he will continue to serve the sick and injured in the US for at least some years to come. My point is that we love America just as we love our home country. We visit often if only to go shopping in Fargo or to spend a weekend in Minneapolis. As... (more)

I am an Australian registered nurse in Intensive Care with relatives in the US. When I visited them recently I was shocked to have my uncle ask me if he could use the antibiotics he uses on his cows on himself, as they were much cheaper, and owing to his multiple medical problems he required a lot of medications he could no longer afford. When my cousin found out his wife was pregnant he should've been overjoyed, but he was too worried about how he would fund the delivery. His own birth was complicated and was not payed off by his parents... (more)
