I had health insurance at my last company. I had gone to a doctor for a knee injury, had an MRI of the knee and the doctor recommended surgery to repair a torn meniscus. As I was getting ready to schedule the surgery a letter came from the insurance company: my employer had dropped the company's insurance. After calling around I found myself out in the cold. The temporary insurance I took to cover me does not cover my knee, and I am excluded from any long-term insurance because of my pre-existing knee condition. So here I sit, cast away... (more)
I have written to this site before so I don't knwo if this stuff is being read or trashed.

ive worked two jobs most of my life. Have been working since I was 14 years old. Started my own business a few years ago, and now find myself without healthcare. Its crazy if I get sick now , ill lose everything ive worked for.
On November 23rd, 2003, I was diagnosed with a cancer of the larynx at stage T4, I was 49 years old.
I went to Houston and got treatment with the hope of getting rid of the cancer. It went away for 6 months then it came back.... with a vengence.
On January 25th, 2005, I had to be operated. A total laryngectomy was performed, the operation lasted 11 hours and when I woke up I had no larynx, no voice and I was breathing through a whole in my neck. The operation did saved my life. But then after three months, I placed a voice protheses and... (more)

I have lived in 7 different countries with far better quality, affordable health care. This is especially true for seniors.
The USA has the capacity (abundant resources) to be a leader.
My name is Lazaro Sanchez. My mother passed away from breast cancer in 2001, at the age of 44 after a 5 year battle. Throughout the entire battle she seemed more concerned about her insurance covering the treatment than the concern of the illness. During this period of time it was a constant struggle to find the money to pay more than $700 a month in medication, even with insurance. I found it horrifying that in the most powerful country on earth, its citizens have to choose between their needed medication and putting food on the table for... (more)
I work for Dade County Public Schools and eveery year our insurance covers less and costs more. It is very hard to afford payments for our dependents. We need great changes in health insurance. I, even with insurance was not able to do a follow up chec up for breast cancer. Deductibles are very high. I also see how so many of my adult students are unable to obtain health care when needed. We, please, need changes in our health care system. It is shameful how other countries like England, Canada, France etc. have great health programs for their... (more)

After working 30 years as a flight attendant, I retired & my airline went bankrupt & in light of todays economy, I'm very much afraid my prior employer/airline won't make it. Should this happen - there goes my health plan (and maybe pension?). It doesn't seem fair. We need healthcare for everyone & we need it now! We need fair & affordable prices for prescription medications.
I fortunately married an Italian and we are covered by the health services in Italy.
It is shameful to think that tourists coming to America have no coverage when in the USA but the millions of Americans who travel to Italy or other countries in the European Union are given FREE healthcare when here. There is no billing for Emergency and most other services.
I, as an American but a foreign resident, have no valid coverage in the USA!
The system is totally broken, unfair, and a money-making farce.
Prescriptions which I take in Italy and... (more)
Dear Congress,
I stand by President Obama's principles for health-care reform, and I hope that you do too. If you don't, I hope that you will after you read my story.
My family is not a poor family. My father earns a good salary, and thank G-d, we were not hurt too badly by the economic collapse. However, my family is a large family (six kids including me, thank G-d), and while my father is paid well for his job, it's not always enough.
There have been times (even before the crisis) where I or my siblings have not been able to go... (more)
Even with insurance the out of pocket expenses are going up and my income is going down. As a new homeowner, I am struggling now, not because my mortgage is too high but because I had problems with my kidneys a couple of years ago. The bills are still coming in and my anxiety is going up. I still have a $28000.00 hospital bill that my insurance company is refusing to pay because I didn't get authorization before going to the hospital. I didn't get authorization because I collapsed and someone called an ambulance to take me to the emergency... (more)
I lost my job in construction. I use to live as an American should. Paid my taxes, my money circulated. I had a so-so health insurance plan, It wasn't the best, but I managed. Now I have nothing. it dawned on me the other day that I could die in the streets just like those unfortunate people in India where they picked up the bodies in the morning. Before President Obama, I felt that we were being governed by something unAmerican. Like we were under seige. I bet it's not easy for you, Mr. President. I mean, having to have to confront the... Dear President Obama,
I hope my report on how poor and indigent Americans receive Medical assistance reaches your eyes and ears. Most of all, I hope it touches your Heart and helps you think about the helpless and can help you to change Policies so that Americans can continue being the Proudest, Best Educated, and Healthiest Country in the World. I pray for Americans to be able to actually pursue happiness without every facet of life holding us back after 30 years of disregard for the average American and the bloating of the Super Rich by the... I am out of work and although presently on Cobra, I am terrified of my health care insurance costs once Cobra runs out. I have checked and the cost will be too high. They told me my premium will be 25% more because I have slightly higher than normal cholesterol. They also told me I have a pre-existing because I have osteoporosis and won't cover anything fracture related. I am now sorry I did a bone density scan. All this with a quote of $400 a month and a $5,000 deductable. Other than above I am perfectly healthy and hardly go to the... (more)
