In 1996, during an hysterectomy, my doctor discovered that I had ovarian cancer. Because I had good health care insurance and because I was able to go to MD Anderson in Houston, I have recovered. My daughter-in-law's mother was not so lucky. Her ovarian cancer was not found early, she did not have good insurance and she died needlessly from the cancer that has taken so many women away from their families. I know that your Mother also died with ovarian cancer and I offer my deepest sympathy to you.

MY WIFE AND I DID NOT HAVE HEALTH CARE AT ALL FOR MOST OF OUR 13 YEARS OF MARRIAGE. WHICH HAS PROVED COSTLY WITH DOCTOR BILLS WE CONTINUE TO PAY ON. WE RECENTLY WERE ABLE TO GET HEALTH CARE WITH BLUSE CROSS BLUE SHIELD WHICH IS GOOD BUT THE COST IS HIGH AND WE ARE STILL OUT CO PAYS. I BELIEVE IN PAYING FOR A SERVICE BUT THE EXTREME COST IS OUT OF HAND. MY WIFE AND I BOTH NEED A SURGERY DONE BUT EVEN WITH INSURANCE NEED TO COME UP WITH 5K TO MEET DEDUCTIBLE. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION FOR US AS WE HAVE 3 CHILDREN ALL UNDER AGE 10 SO THAT KIND OF $... (more)

Just in case anyone reads these, I want you to know that I am a dual citizen, born in Boston, MA, living in Toronto.
I've had cancer treatment in the last five years.
My parents both had cancer treatment here in the 1980's.
My in laws had major health issues in the later years of their lives.
My family and my wife's had diligent efforts at every turn and it did not cost any of us one thin dime ( even a dime only worth $0.80! )
They system up here is preferable to any coverage most of my US relatives have.
Unless you're wealthy.

My elderly parents have been taking half the prescribed medication because they are now in the Medicare Drug COVERAGE GAP. The coverage provided under Plan D is VERY CONFUSING -- please simplify and make drugs more affordable to elderly.

Our son has recently became self-employed, after working for a large corporation with health insurance benefit. He, his wife and two young children are covered, at great expence, by a policy inferior to the one he had in his corporate job. Premiums for small self employed are unreasonably high, and I'm hopeful your plan will help these folks.

I have the good fortune to have both good health and money to afford the limited healthcare I need. I have to get the middle-income sliding scale rates from my chiropractor and my psychologist. They both have high degrees of skill and excellent reputations, so they don't have to worry about their incomes, and they aren't the kind of people to obsess over that sort of thing in any case.
I pay about $100 per month for my insurance, which has a $10K deductible and provides no prescription, dental, or mental coverage, but it keeps my Mother... (more)

Pediatrician in San Angelo, Tx since 1983. Our hospital charges the uninsured 5-10x what insurance pays for the same service. I think presenting the different costs to the country would be an education to many people. Even the simplest procedure is dramatically expensive. Hospital and physician charges are not fair and reasonable. They are exorbitantly high so that they can make money on the 20% reimbursement they receive from private insurance.

My 32-year-old daughter is pregnant. She has three other children, one is a two-year-old Max, who at nine months had a severe health emergency and was in PICU for many days, and is now what they call a 'MRSA' child, who is 'at risk.'
Since the 2008 incident with Max, my daughter Jessica decided to work part-time from home, which she was fortunate to get to do. BUT, her insurance was dropped because she was part-time, and so she's been on COBRA since. Cobra will drop her in July, and if she cannot find other insurance, she will be liable... (more)

I was a newly wed at age 19 some years ago, became pregnant a few months later and carried the baby six months. I had problems contracting early. I went to emergency hospital and they would not see me because I had no insurance. My parents still had insurance on me, therefore while I was in so much pain, I had to wait for them to go home to get the insurance. I was admitted into the
hospital, our son was born during my sixth months pregnacy and he only lived three days because his stomach had not fully developed.
I do not want others to... (more)

I am blessed to live in a city with quality health care choices but with a price tag that not everyone can afford. I am covered under a PPO health plan through my husband's employer but a recent trip to the local ER for a nosebleed cost me $675 AFTER insurance payments and adjustments. How can the average family with children afford this? The good news is that the health care system available locally is computerized...any time I have care from any physician or hospital in my PPO they can, with a few keystrokes, have my full medical history... My family and I are in good health and health care is not a concern except the price I am paying for coverage. If I knew that what I am paying made health care available for people who cant afford it I would gladly pay these premiums. I feel universal health care is the way to go. You have my support on what ever it takes...

I am 58, retired with minimal coverage/high deductible major medical policy. This policy for some reason excludes coverage of my jaw although I have never experienced a malignancy, TMJ or any other medical condition affecting health of the jaw. Because my prescribed medication for bone health carries a low risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw, I cannot risk taking the medication because I would not be covered for this condition if I were in the very small percentage to experience this condition. So, I run the risk of accelerated bone loss and its... (more)

I don't have health insurance as the coverage for me is beyond my financial means. March 19, 2009 I suffered seizures in my home and had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance. I was there for 4 days and now have a hospital bill of $15,000.00, a clinic bill of over $2,000.00 and ambulance bill of $600.00 plus other bills coming in, due to this. I am paying between $25 - $50 a month to each of these places but this is going to take forever to pay. I still have weekly blood tests (at $68.00 each) and doctor bills as I have to see a... (more)

My father has several medical conditions that limit the quality of his life, and he will not get insurance until he feels it will be worth the cost. Some surgeries he should have had done he wouldn't because at the time he couldn't afford it. Insurance companies can't PROFIT from covering people like my father and that is the problem.

Because of Federal Student Grants & Loans, I received my MPA degree 12/13/09. While seeking employment, I became seriously ill. I went to the ER at Shannon Medical Center (San Angelo, TX). After a CT Scan, I was diagnosed with Granulomatous Disease of the Lungs. I am not employed; I do not have health insurance or family members who can help me. This means I cannot get the medical help I need to fight the bacterial/fungal infections in my lungs. Without medical treatment, I will probably die long before I can make a positive social... (more)

My oldest child has Crohn's Disease for the last 17 years. He has no health insurance, because he's supporting a family and we can't afford his premiums. His kids are on Medicaid, and some of the clinics in San Angelo base treatment on income for accute care. When his life had to be saved at Scott and White, the county shouldered the 20 percent not paid by the Army, or I'd STILL be paying them!
I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or something similar. Although I've spent thousands, and have health insurance through my employer, I can't get... (more)
