My husband had a catastrophic accident last year and is now quadraplegic, his hospital bills totaled over a million dollars for the year he was in various hospitals , he is home now and in order for him to have any healthcare, we are paying over 500.00 a month just for his premium under cobra, we will have to have it extended and it will soon go to 750.00 per month for him, we live on social security disability now and have 2 children in school, I am his only caregiver and I cannot afford to have any kind of insurance on myself or our children because of the premium, that does not even include the cost of the medicine copays which is about 100.00 a month. It is so unfair that you are forced to lose everything you own just to qualify for healthcare, we have no hopes of having anything after working all our lives, so much of the healthcare system is made up on how much the providers can get out of medicare and medicaid, I saw my husband shoved through the system just so they could say they did something for him and charge full price, we were brought the cheapest functional equipment for him to rent,and were charged 700.00 a month rental, we have chosen thru all this NOT to be on medicaid, I have bought all his equipment and paid most all the doctor bills and copays and medicines,we have another year of high premiums to pay until he will qualify for medicare. We refused to lose anymore than we have to due to medical costs but thru the year what we have seen with others was all the same. I consider us to be one of the better outcomes, Please do something so we can all afford care, we should not be just working for taxes and healthcare. I think Pres. Obama has done great so far and keep it up, keep bucking they good old boy politics that has been going on TOO LONG.
