This morning I took my my puppy out in the yard. She likes people so when my neighbor came out to warm up his wife's car, Cha Cha made a mad dash for him. Trying to run after her and keep her from running into the street, I tripped on a tree root and fell face first into the street. I felt something in my face crushing when the street hit me in the face. I must have blacked out briefly because I felt someone holding on to my arm trying to help me up and I didn't see anyone. I called paramedics and was taken to the local community hospital. The care or should I say the lack of care I was given made me feel less than human. I was in so much pain and covered with asphalt. After finding out that I had no insurance, the hospital staff left me lying in my own blood as my wounds hardened and made it more difficult for me to talk, no one even bothered to rinse the dirt out of my wounds. After about 5 hours of no treatment I asked the first hospital staffer that passed if I could go home. I had had enough of lying there on display without any medical attention. So here I am trying to type this message with a hand they say doesn't "appear" to be broken, an eye that is running yellow fluid, facial bruising that will probably never heal and two broken front teeth. Even with making 4 B's this semester at CBU, I feel less than human and I refuse to go out in public looking like this. And my second daughter is graduating this weekend, I can't attend feeling and looking like this. I feel like 3/5 of a person after the way I was treated in the E.R. today. We need a healthcare reform that will let everyone that needs treatment receive proper treatment. WE NEED IT BAD!
Update:
Yesterday I got the hospital bill for this non-treatment and I nearly needed medical attention again when it said that I owe them over $13,000 for doing hardly anything except for x-rays. I was horrified! I may even have to put furthering my education on hold because of these outrageous healthcare costs for non-treatment. President Obama, we need healthcare reform badly and we need it NOW!
