I don't understand what the insurance companies would have to do that they have not already done to injure us and to prove that 'for profit' health care just doesn't work.
I was diagnosed with a condition that required, according to a specialist in that condition, an immediate operation which my health insurance denied me. I was told that if I did not get it soon the symptoms would be irreversible and potentially terminal.
I had a great deal of medical documentation supporting the need for surgery, all of which was ignored and rejected by the insurance company.
I applied to the Calif. Dept. of Corporations which had some oversight power and after a year of denial, suddenly, having been contacted by that agency, my surgery was mysteriously scheduled.
This is only one of many stories I know that convince me that we are very foolish to even consider letting these companies and for profit 'care' continue what to me amounts to criminally negligent behavior.
And yet we still listen when they bellow their demands to continue being part of our health care system. What would it take that has not already happened to many people, what would it take to kick them out and keep them out of our health care. Their track record is proof. What more is there to debate?
