I have been blessed to have reasonably good health throughout my 61 years. Oh sure, I have had an appendectomy and some minor surgeries, but all in all, good health. However, I have seen medical costs take off like a rocket since the late 60's. Technology has had a part in that but I have witnessed egregious charges on hospital bills for items that cost a single digit percentage of the billed cost. Lawyers have upped the ante with malpractice suits and doctors and hospitals have failed to "police" their own. Prescription costs protected by patents have drained billions from patients. I have seen the parade of attractive female sales reps from pharmaceutical companies "pushing pills" to doctor's offices. Doctors have to have business managers to "run their buiness" so they can actually spend time with patients. Sanity needs to be restored to the process. The profit motive has to be removed from health care. You can bet there will be screaming in the halls of Congress as lobbyists attempt to derail the return to patient care as the central theme of health care.
