In 1981 I was in a terrible gas explosion, in which my husband died and I had third degree burns on 50% of my body. I was sent to emergency care at Brotman-Memorial Hospital and after they stablized us and we would survive a change in locations they sent us by ambulance to County General in Los Angeles. A spokesman for Brotman-Memorial told my mother, "We are a profit-making institution. They have no insurance." Shortly after we were moved my husband died. I believe to this day that the transporting from facility to facility killed him.Now I cannot work as I am totally disabled from the injuries I suffered that night. I am on SSI and I only recieve Medi-Cal here in California. Several medications I need are not covered by this insurance so I must do without it. I also have asthma and needed a nebulizer. No one would cover it and I ended with my social worker actually purchasing it for me. I don't know how I'll ever pay that money back. Please do something. It just can't go on like this much longer. People are dying, people are suffering. Doesn't anybody in Washington care?
